During the last part of first semester, Kaysville Jr High's 9th grade engineering class wanted to build a suspension bridge that would hold the entire class. The students calculated all the math, drew up the plans, and wrote each job description. This included the loading calculations for the main cable, and deck bending movements, the math formulas for the main cable and deck layout, abutment loads, caisson and footing details, and tower construction. It has been a very intense learning experience. The class all stood on it and it held great. Calculating with students standing on it, it held well over 2000 lbs (a Ton).
CATALYST CENTER opened January 2022!
The Catalyst Center is the place where innovation, collaboration and education meet. Our CTE magnet school brings Davis School District students, local business and industry mentors together. Next Step Night - October 8 & 9, 2019
Have you thought about life after high school and what your future will look like? Have you thought about where you might work or what you might do for a job? Are you worried about paying for college? Have you wondered how to earn a scholarship or financial aid? Have you heard of concurrent enrollment? Do you wonder about the college credits and what they are good for, or do they transfer from university to university? Do you want a job out of high school that pays better than minimum wage and has an opportunity for career growth? NextStep Night was an opportunity for you to get answers to those questions. Industry leaders from Health Information, Hospitality, Education, Construction Management, Information Technology and more were available to talk to you about your future. There were breakout sessions covering scholarships and financial aid, and how to qualify for them. NextStep had people from Weber State coming to answer all of your questions about Concurrent Enrollment. At NextStep Night representatives from the Davis Technology College showcased the programs that they offer on their campus. Students and parents were invited to NextStep night to learn how to graduate high school with a job that pays double and even triple minimum wage. NextStep Night was held October 8th from 6-8 at Northridge High School or October 9th from 6-8 at Woods Cross High School. What is your NextStep? Contact your high school CTE Coordinator for more information.
